Conceptual Portrait Photography – painting with light and allowing ourselves to be seen.

Creating stunning conceptual portraits using LIGHT and AUTHENTICY as the main styling components.

A surreal, conceptual creative portrait photoshoot brought to life through a projector, a handful of LED lights, and a powerful artistic vision. The intention: to shape beauty into form and craft a visual story you can’t help but want to step into.

Seeing ourselves in a “new light” and what that can do for self-concept and inner radiance.

As a portrait photographer focused on embodiment, self-expression, and healing through beauty weaving and art making, I’m always exploring how environment shapes perception. When we place ourselves in intentional creative spaces, we’re able to see ourselves in a new light. And seeing ourselves differently is often the first step toward a better life. Imagine shifting your internal landscape in a way that positively alters your self-perception—supporting a more joyful, confident, and life-giving way of being.

What would change for you if you stepped into embodied expressions of confidence and inner knowing more often?

The subject of these photographs is a photographer herself. Her name is Olivia Edvalson. Her work captured my heart and creative mind for 5 years before we ever met. To get a feel for the creative realms she plays in, her website is: https://www.oliviaedvalson.com/

We had enjoyed following each other for half a decade before an opportunity arose for us to collaborate and bring our two worlds together.

We took turns creating photoshoots for the other person to step into.

She photographed my partner and I at the stunning Antelope Island State Park. We’ll see the final images when she publishes them as part of an exciting project coming in 2027. Until then, here’s a quick iPhone shot to enjoy!

Allowing ourselves to be photographed in beautiful light opens the door to seeing ourselves in brave new ways. Here’s why that matters:

My partner and I spent months looking forward to this shoot. We chose it intentionally because we wanted to experience the healing that comes from being seen—both in our partnership and as individuals.

The plan was to embody the Sun God and Moon Goddess.

“After lifetimes of orbiting, they finally met, and danced.”

Type of vibe. You get it.

When the day came, however, we had been feeling disconnected and stressed. Life has a way of working out that way sometimes, doesn’t it?

Being witnessed doesn’t always come at the perfect moment.

It would have been so easy to panic and abort mission.

It would have been incredibly simple to say

  • “I can’t let myself be seen like this.”

or

  • “I’m not ready to be photographed yet.”

or

  • “Let’s reschedule for a day where we feel (ie: look) better.”

We tend to have ideas about who we need to be in order to be worthy of being seen. The collective desire to be different than we are – more than we are – has stolen so many happy moments away from people.

The fear of being seen could have stopped us from enjoying the experience.

We didn’t let it.

Instead, my partner and I showed up for the process. We carried our belongings to the top of a rocky overlook and assembled the outfits with Olivia’s styling guidance by wrapping fabric, lights, and embellishments around our shoulders, waists, and hips. We turned on music that felt right for the moment, and we held each others gaze as the light faded to a golden hour hue around us.

When we let go of perfection, we found truth.

Through the process of showing up in our honesty, in our rawness, in our fullness, we got to witness the power of alchemy moving through our union. The energy shifted between us, allowing an organic coming-back-together moment where the seperation dissolved and connection reemerged.

The elements seem to work in harmony with our intention to reconnect. Early winter winds blew through our session, making our fabric outfits come alive in a colorful dance as we held one another to stay warm. The sunshine, which we assumed would be completely buried behind a blanket of clouds, emerged in her full radiance at the perfect moment- lighting up my lovers eyes with a glistening glow.

It was….kind of perfect.

By the end of our session we were laughing and crying. It was one of those moments that makes all the moments leading up to it seem lackluster in comparison – the levels of presence and electricity that moved through us lit a new kind of fire between us.

We fell more in love that day, holding one another closely amidst the changing elements.

The next day, I got to photograph our photographer and complete the creative collaboration we started.

We used a high-intensity projector, several LED lights, a fog machine, and some photoshop magic to create this gallery of images shot at a stunning studio space here in Salt Lake City, Utah: https://www.43studios.com/

Olivia, our subject for this photoshoot, has an insane gift for turning a piece of fabric into a masterpiece rapidly.

Does that silver fabric look familiar to you…? Yeah, same one wrapped around my body for the Moon Goddess look.

With only the essentials – some amazing accessories, safety pins, and patience – a goddesses outfit emerged from nothing but a bag of loose fabric and clanking chains. Now that’s alchemy.

Our surreal portrait photoshoot results truly blew me away.

Creating art allows us to step into brave new levels of inner truth. When we see ourselves bathed in poetic beauty it naturally sparks a question from deep within:

What would change if I believed myself to be the main character of my life?

If I changed my own internal storytelling of my journey? If I saw every challenge, every obstacle, as an important and valuable part of my heroin journey.

Imagine where my life would be if I decided to shop shying away from my bigness.

My artwork is here to help you step into the role of main character within your own story.

My portrait photoshoots styling and creation center questions like:

  • Who are you becoming in this season of your life?
  • How are you ready to embody yourself? How are you wanting to showcase your journey?
  • What version of yourself are you stepping into? How do they show up?

Ready for your turn?

Babe!! This was such a powerful moment for us both. I learned that I don’t have to try to fix anything which is hard when energy feels gritty and tense. I get to practice falling in trust and rising in love with you again and again. Being witnessed through the light of love and compassion transforms my life everyday. Thank you for being who you are
